  • What is complex developmental trauma?

Complex developmental trauma refers to exposure to multiple traumatic events during childhood, often within the caregiving system. This can significantly impact a child's brain development, behavior, and ability to form healthy relationships.

  • How do I know if my adopted child has experienced complex trauma?

Signs may include difficulty regulating emotions, behavioral issues, problems with attachment, developmental delays, or challenges in school. Complex trauma can happen in utero, so regardless of how early your child is adopted, they can show signs of trauma. However, every child is unique, and a professional assessment is the best way to determine if complex trauma is a factor.

  • What age range do you work with?

We work with families of children of all ages, from toddlers to young adults. Our strategies are adaptable to different developmental stages and needs.

  • How is your approach different from traditional therapy?

Our approach combines personal experience as adoptive parents with professional expertise in developmental trauma. We focus on practical, implementable strategies and ongoing support rather than traditional talk therapy.

  • Can you help if my child hasn't been officially diagnosed with a trauma-related disorder?

Absolutely. Many children with complex trauma histories don't have official diagnoses. In fact, we work with children with multiple diagnoses and children without a diagnosis. We focus on addressing behaviors and building family connections, regardless of formal diagnoses.

  • Do you offer services for non-adoptive families?

Yes, we work with any family dealing with complex developmental trauma, including foster families and biological families where early trauma has occurred. There are many ways of experiencing trauma that do not include adoption, such as premature birth, losing a loved one, the disruption of a family, and other things.

  • What's the difference between your membership community and one-on-one coaching?

Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
  • Is parent coaching covered by insurance?

No, our parent coaching services are not covered by insurance. However, we offer various service options to accommodate different budgets.

  • How do I know if your services are right for my family?

We offer a free discovery call where we can discuss your family's specific situation and challenges. This helps us determine if our services align with your needs and how we can best support you.

Kind words

Melody was able to immediately drill down to our needs and offer practical solutions for us as parents, our adopted child, and our biological children. The way she spoke with our 6-year old was truly extraordinary. Melody helped us and our child to see the reality of our situation and process it in a healthy way. The tools she gave us has greatly reduced the number of breakdowns in our house. Our 6-year old can now play independently, whereas before she required constant one-on-one time. Our adopted child is more confident, secure-feeling, and respectful since implementing all of Melody's recommendations. We are very grateful.
